With much appreciated support from John-Paul Drake, of Drakes Supermarkets, West Motorsport was able to run its latest vehicle the locally designed and build LMX with impressive results including best lap times in some of the sprints.
John-Paul is no stranger to sport racing, and was in fact the second ever driver to test out the LMX when it was aired in August this year.
West’s LMX racer with its stock standard Kawasaki ZX10R (LMX10), 1000cc engine matched easily the likes of the 2.7 litre Radical SR8.
International racing car champion James Winslow with his engineering team on the day consisting of Ian Richards, Nick Buratto and Harry Leondaris, used the event to fine tune and tweak the suspension and alignment, something a sprint series is perfect for. This gained him 1.3 seconds on the second day. From left in the picture are Nick, Harry, James Winslow, and Chairman of West Greg Steer beside the LMX.
James is an aggressive driver and tested the machine under trying conditions, yet achieving a lap time of 46.72 seconds on 20 November 2016. On August 26 2014 James also achieved the Sports Racer lap record of 1:05.91 at Mallala with the West WR 1000.
After Bathurst James is scheduled to race famous movie star Jackie Chan’s car in Japan and his target now he says is Le Mans.
West is now in full production of the LPM4 with the second one about to be shipped from our fully owned factory in Thailand. We can imagine a day soon where as well as the existing race events there could be LMX exclusive race events.
