IMSA LITES
In 2006, West was instrumental in helping to lauch the IMSA Lites series. The IMSA Lites Championship presented by Frisby Tire was developed as a feeder series to the American Le Mans Series. The championship features global race car constructors Élan Motorsports, West Race Cars, and Van Diemen. IMSA Lites offers competitors from around the world the opportunity to compete in a highly competitive atmosphere at historic racing circuits like Sebring International Raceway, Road Atlanta, Laguna Seca and many others! The Championship gives racers the opportunity to sharpen their skills in a multi-class environment around the atmosphere of the American Le Mans Series. West Race Cars is the exclusive manufacturer for the L2 class. ofering both the WX10 and the WR1000 as options. These cars feature a semi-monocoque frame sheltering the driver in a 1" thick monocoque tub for driver safety and stability, and full aerodynamic package including a CF designed tunnel. Shifting is optionally controlled by an F1-inspired electronic paddle shift system paired with a 1 liter race motor revving up to 12,000 rpm and developing 174hp.
The IMSA Lites Championship is part of the IMSA schedule giving it a great level of exposure at marquee events across North America. The American Le Mans Series/IMSA weekends average over 75,000 spectators on an event weekend. The Championship offers significant marketing exposure opportunities due its IMSA and American Le Mans Series association. The American Le Mans Series attracts an unparalleled demographic of well-educated, affluent consumers that cannot be matched in any other form of North American motorsports.
WHY IMSA LITES L2?
The L2 rules for 2010 are being extensively modified to reduce the performance restrictions of the West cars against the L1 class, ultimately bringing them farther up the overall grid, which means
more exciting competition for you. Additionally these rule changes will allow the West to be a true cross-platform car between IMSA Lites, SCCA, NASA or other racing series. So now, when you take your car outside of IMSA Lites, you can have a national front-running racer for SCCA or NASA events - with little to no modification! No other manufacturer can truly say this! To describe in more detail why you want to run IMSA Lites L2: THE BEST OVERALL VALUE: Over a season, you will spend tens of thousands of dollars less than running in L1, yet still be on the same tracks, running the same speeds, with similar prize funds and contingencies, and having the same marketing and press exposure. Going West and L2 will save you at least $30,000 over a new or used DP02 L1 car. It’s the same series and same excitement with a lot less money!
LOWER MAINTENANCE COSTS: The West runs motorcycle engines, which are far less expensive than the DP02. A stock Kawasaki or Suzuki engine can be found regularly on eBay for well under $1,500 complete. The DP02 engine is over $17,000 new. And because the West is so light, regular maintenance items like brake pads, rotors, etc are replaced less often and the cars use less fuel - all while running at similar performance levels as L1.
TRUE CROSS PLATFORM PERFORMANCE: This is a big one. Depending on how you spec out your West, you can own a car that will be a front runner in IMSA Lites one weekend, and an SCCA DSR front-running National winning car the next weekend - all with little to no modification! No other manufacturer can truly say this!
GREAT MARKETING: If you have sponsorship or want exposure, West will work with you to help get that exposure. We actively promote the L2 class in many ways and will help you in whatever reasonable way we can to gain exposure for you and your performances.
